Having been a homeowner for many years, I’ve had my share of challenges. You’ve got upgrades to do on your house over time, maintenance and always cleaning. Probably the worst job you have to do is clean your gutters once in a while! But somewhere in that list is the need to stop critters and pests from getting inside your brick walls. You may not even know that they’re getting into your weep-holes, those open gaps in your brick along the foundation.
When your house was built with brick outer walls, the brick-layers were required by building code to leave the weep-hole gaps so your walls could breathe. Otherwise, mold and rot can start taking over and do serious damage to your wall structure! Where we live, though, there are lots of pests looking for a warm, moist place to thrive, away from the elements. And inside those weep-hole openings you will find lizards, mice and even snakes making a nest there – I’ve seen it happen.
It finally got to the point where I said enough is enough! So like most homeowners I looked around for a product I could buy and fix the problem. It wasn’t easy, since the hardware stores had nothing to offer but bug spray. And when I searched on the web stores such as Amazon, there was no product out there that was easy to install and had positive ratings. I happened to have a 3D-printer in the workshop, so I started modeling and printing up some designs. The best, easiest to install design was a vee-shaped insert that goes in until the squeeze tabs rest on the outer face of the brick. If you want to reposition it, just squeeze the tabs and move it or replace it. It’s that easy.
I called the new product Weep Shield, since it defends your home from pests, debris, and occasional splashes of water from your sprinklers. But this shield has a bunch of small holes so your brick wall can still breathe. And it’s made from strong, flexible high-tech plastic that is resistant to direct sun. Now, we are marketing the product to all the large hardware stores and even Amazon. That way, everyone who has brick siding can have peace of mind for years and years. Just go to our “Where to Buy” tab. Order Weep Shield and give it a tryout today!
